U8 locally

Bristol was one of the first Universities to become involved in U8, and has just shy of 200 students on its records.

Bristol U8 holds weekly discussion groups and frequent speaker events for students at Bristol University to engage with international development issues, and to work together to help find solutions to the world’s troubles. At the end of each month we hold a larger meeting of a different style – a film, a workshop, a social. Alongside this, we publish minutes of every meeting online.

We are an informal society, in the sense that we aim to be an open and friendly group, in which all views are respected and appreciated. Our meetings take place in local pubs, and aim to provide a platform in which people can discuss development issues without fear of saying the ‘wrong’ thing. Whether you’re a communist Cafe-direct drinker or Neo-con Nescafe lover, so long as you have an interest in development and want to make a difference, you’re welcome to join us. Equally, you might have a fixed idea about something, or you might be totally clueless and looking for answers, but so long as your mind is open, our door is!

If you’re still not sure about something, or would like to join the society, just go to the contact page and drop us a message. And, if you’re that way inclined, you can find our group on Facebook to keep up to date with the latest society news.

If you’re very interested, you can do a team project to find out more about development and get your suggestions heard by the whole world. And if you like you can come to the UK summit on the weekend of the 15th and 16th March at SOAS in London.
